Takemichi, a virgin now 26 years old and unemployed, learns that the woman he dated in middle school and the only woman he has ever dated has died. He then finds that he has traveled back in time to his years as a middle school student after an accident occurs. He aims to rise to the top of the most violent criminal organization in the Kantou region in order to carry out his pledge to change the course of events and rescue the child. 2020’s 44th Annual Kodansha Manga Awards will recognize the Best Shounen Manga winner.

The Tokyo Revengers manga series, also known as Tokyo Ribenjzu in Japan, was written and illustrated by Ken Wakui (Hepburn: Tokyo Ribenjzu). It was serialized in the Weekly Shnen Magazine of Kodansha between the months of March 2017 and November 2022. In total, 31 tankbon volumes containing its chapters have been published as of January 2023. An anime television series produced by Liden Films that aired from April to September 2021 and was based on the manga. In January 2023, the second season made its premiere. A live-action film adaptation was first released in Japan in July 2021, and a second episode is expected to be released in 2023.

When Hinata Tachibana and her younger brother Naoto were killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang, Takemichi Hanagaki, a freeter in his thirties, learned of their deaths one day. The Tachibana family included both Hinata and Naoto. When he gets pushed in front of a train in the year 2005, Takemichi is able to time travel precisely twelve years into the past. In a meeting with Naoto while reliving his middle school years, Takemichi gives Naoto the exact day that he and Hinata would die. When they shake hands, Takemichi is immediately transported back to the present, creating a time paradox in which Naoto is able to survive and is currently employed as a detective. Naoto has concluded that anytime the two of them hold hands, Takemichi gets sent an additional 15 years into the past. With the knowledge he has learned from the future, Takemichi has resolved to use it to save Hinata.
Kiyomasa, a member of the Tokyo Manji Gang, forced Takemichi’s former allies to take part in covert battles that he was directing. Mikey, the gang’s leader, respects Takemichi for his unshakable dedication to keeping them safe. Takemichi finds out that his recent friendship with Mikey prevented one of his other friends, Akkun, from being detained in the present. When Akkun kills himself out of fear, Takemichi realizes that the Tokyo Manji Gang is more of a threat to his friends than he initially thought.
The Tokyo Manji Gang is at war with Moebius, an opposing gang, as a result of Takemichi’s time trip to the past, and they are doing it to exact revenge on Pah-companion. Takemichi, Mikey’s partner in command, learns that Draken will be killed in the future, which will cause Mikey to act violently as a response. Draken escapes the altercation unhurt, but after stabbing the leader of the Moebius gang, Osanai, Pah-chin turns himself in to the police. There are arguments among the Tokyo Manji Gang on how to help Pah-chin in this circumstance as a result.
Takemichi is able to settle the dispute between Mikey and Draken, but on August 3, 2005, the Tokyo Manji Gang was ambushed by a group of Moebius members led by Shoji Hanma, a Valhalla member. Takemichi learns that Peh-yan joined up with them in vengeance for Mikey and Draken permitting Pah-chin to be jailed, and that Kiyomasa attacked Draken in retaliation for Draken humiliating him and making him leave the Tokyo Manji Gang. Peh-yan tells Takemichi this information. The Tokyo Manji Gang triumphs in the conflict, Takemichi defeats Kiyomasa, and Draken recovers fully from his injuries.
